UFT: Volunteers Needed!!

I am writing to ask you to help build turnout for the critical March 5 "Rally for New York."

While the federal stimulus bill has now been signed, the budget crisis is far from over, and our March 5 rally remains crucial. Simply put, the money from the stimulus package is not enough to make up the multi-billion dollar shortfalls in the state and city budgets. We also need to press local officials to do the right thing with the federal funds and make sure they reach the classroom and are used for direct student services. We are still facing an unprecedented crisis and we need an unprecedented response.

Leading up to the March 5 rally, we need hundreds of volunteers to participate in our outreach efforts: phone banks and leafleting. Please call your UFT borough office to volunteer today (phone numbers are listed below).

The federal stimulus was a big win for all of us - the largest federal commitment to education ever - and it would not have been possible without you. Everyone who faxed their congressional representatives or went to Washington to lobby helped make the stimulus package a reality. Thank you.

And just as we mobilized to make history with the stimulus bill, we can and must mobilize to make history on March 5.

Please volunteer today, and work with the UFT chapter leader at your school to organize turnout.

I want to personally thank you for what you have already done. Your dedication to our schools and our city in this unprecedented crisis is greatly appreciated, and you make us all proud.

Sincerely,
Michael Mulgrew
UFT Vice President / Chief Operating Officer
