Supporters of Public Education - Keep the Promise!
We Need to Call Our State Legislators NOW!
The State Assembly and Senate are meeting TODAY to determine their proposed funding levels for education.
Call your state senator and assemblymember NOW!
If you have relationships with other legislators, call them too!
What to say when you call:
- My name is ________________, and I'd like to get a message to the Senator/Assemblymember.
- I want to make sure that restoring Governor Paterson’s $2.5 billion cut to the education budget is a priority as the legislature determines their budget proposals.
- The Federal stimulus is a great start but it doesn't complete the job. That's why I am counting on Senator/Assemblymember _______________to speak out in support of Fair Share Tax Reform and restoring the education funding cuts.
Key Points
- Governor Paterson’s proposal to cut $2.5 billion from education will devastate our children’s schools.
- The federal stimulus funding helps – but it amounts to $2.5 billion over two years for both K-12 and higher education. It is not enough by itself!
- We need both the stimulus funding AND Fair Share Tax Reform, which would raise an estimated $6 billion a year for education and other important programs.
- Restoring education funding and Fair Share Tax Reform should be priorities for the legislator!
