UFT: Call Your Representative!

Dear colleague,

We all believe in our work and our schools. Every one of us wants our students to succeed. Improving outcomes for kids is our top priority.

But imagine how hard it will be for your students if your school budget is significantly cut.

Sadly, NYC schools are still facing $500 million in state and city cuts, and that means your school could be looking at a major budget reduction.

There is a better way!

The Obama administration did its part to help avoid devastating cuts and now it is New York State's turn to do its part.

The UFT is fighting in Albany for a permanent progressive income tax on the state's wealthiest citizens. A progressive income tax would bring in billions of dollars and help Albany avoid making drastic cuts to our schools.

I know you want to do everything you can to help prevent these cuts and protect our classrooms.

That's why I urge you: Take action today!

Call and fax your state Senator and Assembly member. Ask them to support fair share tax reform. It's about everyone paying their fair share, and it is more critical than ever that state legislators support it.

Go to the UFT Web site to send faxes to your representatives and call the toll free number for the AFL-CIO Action Line (1-877-255-9417) to speak with their offices directly.

Thank you, as always, for protecting students and our profession.

Sincerely Yours,

Michael Mulgrew
UFT Vice President

Hey,

We're working with the AFT right now and I told them about how I am impressed about your blog and how I learned about the New Teacher Diaries because of your blog post about it.

I need your help in disseminating our campaign "United for DC Kids", AFT and WTU are working together to negotiate for a new contract with DCPS. Please help (see my blog)

Thanks.
