I am getting tired of telling stories.
I don't get to see many of my friends too often who work in other fields but the most frequent inquiry into my life is usually along the lines of, "How are the kids?" or "Got any interesting stories?"
I have a good number of things to say and several stories to tell, however, I have come to recognize that in no way are my stories or my experiences going to influence change. What I mean is that I could tell the most horrific/amazing/awe-inspiring/tragic stories about doing what I do, but it won't change anything. This is not a rant, but I refuse to be the source of entertainment when a book or a movie would suffice.
Most people don't understand this position since they either have really uninteresting stories of their own or they just aren't in tune with the severity of what's going on.
I can see now why people who enter high-need teaching leave after such a short period of time. There is not enough of a focus on changing the trend so it seems pretty futile in the long run.
I have written multiple letters and have told my stories to several people. And I'll bet they have had a minimal impact. Don't ask me to relive my work experiences for your own personal entertainment.
