Here's another BBC slide show about a severe drought in Kenya.
It's really interesting when you see your student's responses to how their lives are often taken for granted. If anything they're generally spoiled and have no concept of a truly difficult life until they either experience it or they hear about it.
I would think this lesson would probably go along with the interaction between the environment and populations of people or even the effects of domestication on habitats (maybe?). I'd still want my kids to see this just for the "holy shit" effect that it has. There's also a bit of political science in here with the inherent dangers of making a trek to Somalia for water.
Students complain when they get their cell phones or hats confiscated in school, Kenyan's don't have water... No contest.
The link has been added to Biology as BBC - Kenya's Drought.
Enjoy and good luck!
