Is America a "Stupid" Country?

Bill Maher has suggested that America is a "stupid country" on an interview with CNN when asked about the prospect of Sarah Palin running for Presidential office.

I can't say that I disagree with Maher on this one. There is a growing idiocracy in America that compromises the quality of life for everyone. When people think that Sarah Palin would make a wonderful President we have some serious lapses in judgment that only support the conclusion that we as a society are probably getting dumber and dumber.

Maybe it's the competitive nature of her participation in beauty contests or her complete obliviousness that many Americans share on key issues that require some basic foundation of knowledge (checks and balances, NAFTA, stem-cell research, Drosophila research, reading, etc).

You have to wonder how people like Bill O'Reilly contribute to the utter stupidity that this nation falls victim to since people actually believe the words coming out of his mouth. It's like amusing a child with a shiny object. Arguments like Bill O'Reilly's comparison of Palin and Massachusetts Governor Patrick is a staggering fallacy that many people with non-functional brains believe to be a fair and valid comparison. So according to O'Reilly, educational background has no bearing on the quality of governance (and all that really matters is approval ratings?). A moron could run Alaska properly, but a Harvard graduate can't manage Massachusetts? Go figure, let's elect her President!

If Sarah Palin runs for President and wins, you'll see an intellectual exodus the likes of which we've never seen before. We won't be outsourcing jobs, instead we'll be outsourcing intelligence and reason (which has been going on the past 8 years under Bush). The sad thing is that we only have ourselves to blame for 8 years of Bush, when it could have been 4, and for even voting for a a super-layman Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin.
