The German National Team is probably one of the best national teams to play on and it shows in how they play. Very clean, very disciplined, very dangerous in a common purpose.
During this year's world cup matches, I watched 3 German players perform a give and go through a 6 man Australian defense, the subsequent cross into the box was sent through the legs of another German player and the player behind him took a clear shot on goal. The "dummy play" suckered 2 defenders from blocking the shot. Though it didn't lead to a goal, it showed how a smaller number of skilled players could dismantle the unprepared defenses.
The game between Germany and Australia was analogous to the movie 300. You have a group of well trained soccer players obliterating their opposition. It's not about numbers, it's about individual talent, skill, and team cohesion.
If you want some idea of the complete cluelessness that inferior teams demonstrate against a team that exercises the level of cooperation and field awareness as the German National Team, then check out the Euro Cup 2008 footage below. They turn soccer into an art form.
