Images like these always fascinate me.
The senseless destruction and the before and after pictures are amazing. It really shows you not only how far we have come in terms of warfare, but also in terms of efficiency in killing each other. Back then, casualties were in the hundreds of thousands. Today, casualties are nowhere near those magnitudes.
Makes you wonder what life would have been like in the trenches, the scary thing is that your chances of surviving in the trenches are so low to begin with.
Also makes you wonder if it's really worth it. If wars were fought in the same manner as in WW I, perhaps we would think twice about going to war...
