CNN posted this article about how they have engineered mice who have a slower aging process.
Aging is a naturally occurring process that shouldn't be treated with drugs to boost telomerase activity. If you need to take drugs to stop aging for cosmetic purposes or to lengthen your life, then you have a serious problem.
If you're not familiar with telomeres, these are sections of DNA at the ends of chromosomes that shorten after every cell division. Telomerase is an enzyme responsible for lengthening these telomeres to maintain a buffer to prevent accelerated aging.
When they cloned Dolly the sheep, she had a reduced life-span as a result of shortened telomeres. So if Dolly were physically 3 years old, she would be 5 or 6 years old genetically. I guess Dolly could have used some telomerase boosting drugs...
