UFT: Tell the DOE to FIX struggling schools!

Dear Educator,

The NYC Department of Education refuses to help struggling schools, and thousands of children are being hurt as a result of this neglect.

Twenty-five district public schools, a record high for one year, have been put on the block as the DOE continues to insist that the best reform strategy for struggling schools is to shut them down. We need a school system that will identify schools that are struggling and intervene to help them succeed.

That’s why we are calling for a moratorium on closures of schools where the DOE has not intervened to provide support.

Please sign our online petition now.

Last year thousands of educators, parents, students and community members mobilized in protest of the DOE’s close-them-don’t-fix-them strategy, culminating in a court victory that kept 19 schools from closing. This year the union has again pledged its full support for any school that chooses to fight back.

Let’s send a powerful message to the DOE that the educational neglect of our neediest schools and students MUST end.

Sincerely,
Michael Mulgrew
