BBC: The effects of light pollution

The BBC posted another audio slide show about the effects of inefficient lighting at night. What they mean by inefficient lighting is that the lights we use affect the ability to see or observe the starts at night.

As a New York City science teacher it is really difficult to teach a student who has lived in the city all their lives that the sky is full of starts. The lights from the city and the atmospheric glare make it impossible to see the millions of starts that actually scatter the skies at night.

We seem to take the technology of lighting for granted in this respect and for that I really thought this was a very well done slide show.

Enjoy.
