NPR: Photographing the Ocean's Soul

I thought these ocean photos on NPR were amazing.

Students often ask about the mysteries of the deep blue sea when we remotely discuss anything related to marine biology.  It's a common assertion that students understand that we know less about our own oceans that what lies in outer space.

What I always find amazing are the photogenic opportunities that arise by exploring these areas we do not understand.  It's the same sort of mysterious curiosity that arises when you look at the Cassini photos of the unmanned mission to Saturn.  My favorite is this NASA picture where the probe was directly behind the planet with the sun in the background...

Enjoy!
