"Black in America"

Pay our students to go to school. HA!

I can see the benefits of that kind of a system since many high-need students really do need the money but I can imagine the system is so open to abuse that it's not worth the money you invest. So now we're rewarding the smart ones for their performances on exams and not rewarding the ones who struggle.

I feel like there needs to be more to the whole financial incentive. It shouldn't just be for academic performance, it should be based on a number of different things like attendance and homework and classwork or participation. Because then the smart kids will just cut class and only show up to take their exams and get paid. Unless that's a privilege we want to promote in schools.

There are so many problems to address with minority education. Particularly in the black community that it's silly to think that there's any one solution to get students to learn. Throwing money at a problem is usually a fast way to make things get out of hand. What we need is private investing by specialized corporations. My old high school did that with pharmaceutical companies in the area. You ask for some funding for educational programs and they'll offer scholarships for excelling students and get some good publicity.

Whatever, I won't lose much sleep over this. As much as I care about my students and their motivational problems, I won't kill myself for students who don't give a damn about their school work.
