getOpenOffice.org

This is a website my dad told me about that has developed an open source version of Microsoft Office. I'm sure most people are pretty sick and tired of paying out of their eyeballs for Microsoft programs so it's nice to see a group pursue an open-source version of the most commonly used computer programs.

They created their own versions of word, excel, powerpoint, paint, and some math software and it's compatible for use on multiple operating systems, which is impressive in itself. I'm curious if you can open and edit Microsoft made documents on these programs but I get the impression that there's few if any compatibility issues since they're constantly updating the software to make it compatible.

Being that I already have Office Ultimate (back when they had the Ultimate Steal promotion going on) I don't really have any particular use for this but I know that future computers of mine will be utilizing this software series as an alternative to paying several hundreds of dollars to Microsoft.

Use it wisely and tell your friends! Their website encourages distribution by consumers so there's no piracy here. Good deal.
