The city of New York is footing the bill for students in high school to take the PSAT's. So students don't have to pay a registration fee, all they have to do is show up and take the exam.
I have a feeling that this will lead to either 1 of 2 conclusions. When you get score reports back, you're either going to find that NYC is not actually doing what it's supposed to since scores are so low relative to the rest of the nation, or the score results are going to be disputed as unrealistic relative to classroom conditions. One thing is for sure, I'm expecting pretty low scores.
It seems to be a big secret around here that schools in NYC are NOT that great. And it scares me that McCain thinks that NYC seems to be the shining beacon of education that it isn't.
I'd like to know how NYC performs on this standardized test relative to other cities across the country. It would scare me even more if other cities score lower... I feel like this should be a pretty clear wake-up call that we need to focus on re-establishing our priorities towards improving education.
