Socioeconomic Relativity...

I recently discussed with a future doctor about salaries and fairness.

The argument was that pediatricians aren't paid enough for the work they do compared to other doctors. We were discussing how doctors of different practices are held to different standards and there's a lack of fairness in terms of compensation for their work...

I had asked them what a pediatrician makes in a year?

$150,000-200,000 a year.

My response: they shouldn't be complaining. Any individual who makes a 6 figure salary should not complain about making enough money. You've reached the upper echelon of society so please keep your salary grievances to yourselves. If you can manage to fuck up your life making 6 figures a year, then you probably don't deserve 6 figures (learn to live with 5 before going to 6).

It's really sad that amongst the wealthier Americans there is a loss of perception of how they compare to AVERAGE AMERICANS.

This is one of the biggest problems in American society. Entitlement. The wealthy in general are very entitled and they are in many cases either in denial or prefer to play ignorant (for doctors, I'm thinking more the latter since doctors deal with ignorant patients all the time so denial is a bit of a long-shot).

If you don't believe me, next time, ask your specialist how many hours in the past year they've spent doing their work for FREE (NOT including free procedures on a whim, I'm talking about spending the day/weekend/week/month with the impoverished, the homeless, in another country, or with the sick/elderly who can't afford it).

If the pediatrician wants to wager a legitimate argument of fairness, they should argue for reducing the salaries of their specialized counterparts in radiology, surgery, anesthesiology, and so on. These fields can make upwards of $500,000+ a year and for nothing else but to perform unnecessary elective procedures.

It's amazing how people end up in their own microcosm that cuts them off from the rest of civilization. If you're a prospective doctor, don't ever bitch and moan to a teacher about your 6 figure salary, ever (I need to work 30 continuous years for a near-6 figure salary, you just need to graduate from med school and complete residency).
