When I visited Chicago for the NACHC conference, I had some extra time to visit the local museums, aquarium, and the Adler planetarium.
I was really impressed with the Adler planetarium. I'm not much of an astronomy person or an Earth science person but I was engaged and was actually playing around with not only the scientific concepts but also their hands on exhibits. I was most interested in the exhibits where they illustrated the integration of scientific discovery to its impact on various cultures and societies.
They have a website with some teaching resources on it. Nothing that fancy, but pretty informative to the beginner or the amateur astronomer.
If you're ever in the Chicago area, I encourage you to check it out. The link has been added to Physics/Earth Science as Notes - Adler Planetarium.
Enjoy and good luck!
