Bloomberg on Education

Bloomberg has decided to advocate the use of student test scores for evaluative measures for educators in NYC (surprise, surprise).

Makes me wonder as a nontenured educator whether or not I should stick around. This year marks my tenure year so if what the Mayor says is true then I might be denied tenure at the end of this year based on test scores. If that happens, I will have to find another career that is not based on the performance of things I have little control over (there are plenty of other things I could do in the area of science).

Bloomberg needs to spend more realistic time in high-need classrooms before he advocates silly ideas. What's even worse is that the UFT President seems to be readily open to the suggestion.
