Here's an interesting blog that's actually a live feed of a lab that is taking a microtome and generating cross sections of a human brain.
When I first saw this I was a bit amused at the irony since we think of lab animals being caged up in the lab but I thought the lab techs were like lab animals cooped up in their lab.
I've worked with microtomes before and it's a long and tedious process and I can't imagine this process ending too soon with where they are in the brain. You can't really miss too many sections otherwise you lose data or images. There is a lot of patience to exercise and your hands can get really cold...

Apparently, they've finished sectioning the entire brain... It only took them 2401 slices... But if there's one thing you learn in histo-analysis, it's that it'll take a while... But the final product should be pretty awesome.
