The BBC has a few programs available for smart phones if you're interested in navigating the stars. So these apps are capable of identifying celestial bodies based on location, appearance, and other features.
Star gazing programs are kind of cool if you use them in a classroom they're kind of neat especially since students often don't spend more than 5 minutes a day looking up at the sky for any reason other than tanning.

There are other programs for PC or MAC that you can use for classrooms. I usually use Stellarium.
