The BBC has an audio slideshow about the ancient history of writing.
It doesn't really fall under the umbrella of what I teach but I suppose it makes an interesting teaching point to students that the simple act of recording one's thoughts and one's observations has changed the course of human history.
I just thought it was fascinating the various methods that exist in terms of recording information. The basis of all forms of information, entertainment, even mathematics is based on the ability to develop an organized written language.
Just imagine a world without it...
