I think I'll be implementing a class procedure this year that implements some Power Teaching strategies. To implement all of the strategies would mean teaching out of my mind... That would be mentally and physically exhausting.
My general idea is to get students to vocalize their understanding in unison and to raise a silent hand when they don't understand something. The idea is that I'll ask frequently during class if everyone understands and they'll respond with a Hoo-rah or they'll quietly raise their hand.
This is a big step since I've never designed a lesson series so outside the box before and the kids who have had me before are just going to laugh at me. I'm just hoping that they'll get a better attitude towards coming to class and learning something technical. Genetics is tough and it's not easy if you don't understand the basics like elements, compounds, molecules, and hell even the cell.
Eventually, I'll move towards implementing other Power Teaching strategies but I figure baby steps first.
I get the feeling that I'm not going to be myself this year. I'll be a totally different person in the classroom and I'll probably be freaking out about the dumbest things but we'll see. I no longer feel the anxiety of the first days of school. I guess it's because I'm not teaching standardized classes... It's amazing what a crazy standard like the Regents does to your attitude as an educator. I can't imagine what it does to our kids...
No expectations to teach content the first week... Take my time and I'll get some of them to give into doing actual work.

Let me know how the power teaching thing goes. That seems tricky to execute and maintain throughout the day/week/year...
i don't know if you're serious or joking but you certainly wrote it all in a very interesting fashion.
