This is kind of awkward to address at school. I know it's inappropriate and they know it's inappropriate but do you put them down? Do you play along? It's kind of funny but I am not going to put myself in a compromising position at work especially if it gets me into administrative trouble. I've basically resorted to telling lots of phony lies about myself.
I've been getting a lot of random personal questions from female students lately.
* "Mista, do you have a girlfriend?"
* "Are you married? Do you have kids?"
* "How old are you? You look like you're 25."
* "Where do you live in the Bronx?"
* "Is your girlfriend white?"
* "When was the last time you saw your girlfriend?"
* "How often do you have sex with your girlfriend?"
* "Do you go out on weekends and party?"
* "Do you date outside your race?"
* "Would you marry a Latina woman?"
* "What does your girlfriend do for a living?"
Most of the answers to these questions have been lies. I tell some students that I'm 38 years old, married with 3 kids. I tell others that I live in Harlem and date a fine Black woman who knows how to treat a man. Sometimes I'll tell them that I date an Asian woman who beats me at home, which is why I'm so early to school everyday. And others I tell that I'm just a loser that sits on my ass at home writing lesson plans and grading shit all day. Oddly enough they usually don't believe the last one at all (they get verbally dismissive - "Come on mista! Stop lyin! We know you teachers have lives!").
I just think it's funny that students are that nosy about their teachers. I don't remember being that nosy or having that sort of an attachment to a teacher to pry into their private life. But I suppose inquiries are inevitable. As long as they don't know about the blog, I should be fine. :)

I just ask them the question back, then they see how ridiculous it sounds.
Asking them back doesn't work for me, they usually answer their own questions and find it odd that I don't answer it with equal ease so I make lies. All of them are plausible but it's funny that they don't realize the truth.
haha, my kids haven't tried to get *that* personal with me yet. i do mention my kids because when they're out of hand i often compare them to my 2 and 3 year old toddlers. but the most i've gotten are complements on how nicely i'm dressed! here's hoping it stays that way!
