WTF Kars 4 Kids?

I donated my beat up car (94 Ford Taurus) to Kars 4 Kids. This is supposed to be an organization that takes useless cars for the purposes of raising money for children who need it...

On top of the $500 tax-deduction, they also offer a voucher for a 3 day vacation to go along with your donation.

My beef is not necessarily with the organization as it is with their affiliated vacation vouchers. These people are the most flaky and inconsistent in terms of following their own rules. So we've been trying to set up a stay at the behest of the host who seems more interested in charging $50 and then never returning that money when we decide that we don't want to listen to their 90 minute presentation on time shares (and our cancellations have all been months in advance of their "surrender your $50 policy").

In spite of this nonsense, we have yet to speak to an actual person since answering machines and charging credit cards are essentially what keep the business running. So my guess is that these people charge $50 and make it so impossible to get your money back that people part with that money and they're just scamming people.

If you want to donate your car, I do believe that this organization is worth donating your car to, however, do not use the vacation voucher unless you are either a pit bull or are willing to sit and waste your time on time shares and spend $50 on nothing.
